PHOENIX – Today, Gov. Katie Hobbs launched Familias Primero, a coalition of Latino leaders, community members, and local elected officials working to re-elect her, including Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo, former Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox, former State Sen. Raquel Terán, and President of Arizona Carpenters Local 1912 Fabian Sandez. Familias Primero is the first coalition launched by Hobbs’ campaign, underscoring her commitment to earning the vote of every Arizonan, including Latino families.
“In the face of Washington’s cost-hiking policies driving up prices for Latino families, I have remained laser-focused on delivering relief: cutting taxes and expanding access to necessities like healthcare and housing,” said Katie Hobbs. “Familias Primero is about making sure Latino families hear our message: this election is a choice between a governor who’s fighting to lower costs and defend Arizona families, and a Washington politician who’s putting DC’s cost-hiking agenda first.”
Engaging Latino voters has been a top priority since day one of the Hobbs campaign. Hobbs has consistently communicated directly with Spanish-language media about her efforts to lower costs for working families; the campaign made an early multi-million-dollar investment in Spanish-language television, radio, and digital advertising; and Hobbs has met with Latino voters and community leaders across the state from cultural celebrations to conversations with small-business owners about the impact of rising costs.
As governor, Katie has delivered on the issues that matter most: lowering costs, expanding access to healthcare, and keeping our communities safe. This year, she signed a bipartisan budget providing $1.4 billion in tax relief for hardworking Arizonans, including a larger standard deduction for 88 percent of taxpayers, a new $6,000 deduction for Arizona seniors, and the elimination of taxes on tips and overtime pay. She has eliminated $642 million in medical debt, cut prescription costs through AZRx, and fed 700,000 students through the SUN Bucks program.
Hobbs has also strengthened border security and public safety by launching Operation Desert Guardian to crack down on cartels and criminal organizations, stopping more than 18 million fentanyl pills from reaching Arizona communities, and delivering more than $215 million to local sheriffs and police departments to combat drug smuggling, human trafficking, and other border-related crimes.
