National Security Leaders for America Endorses Katie Hobbs, Citing Her Record of Defending Arizona’s Security

PHOENIX – Today, Gov. Katie Hobbs announced the endorsement of the National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A), a bipartisan group of more than 1,400 retired and former generals, admirals, ambassadors, and others who have served to protect our nation’s national security. NSL4A supports Katie Hobbs for her steadfast commitment to defending democratic institutions, her efforts to strengthen border security, and her work protecting Arizona’s critical water resources.

“Katie Hobbs has never wavered in defending our democracy and our national security,” said retired Brigadier General Mark Montjar of the U.S. Army. “As secretary of state, she stood firm against threats to herself and her family to protect the will of Arizona voters. As governor, she deployed the National Guard to secure the border and stood up to a Saudi Arabian corporation that was stealing Arizona’s water. Whether the threat comes from the border, powerful interests, or attacks on our elections, Katie Hobbs will always stand up for Arizona.”

“I’m deeply honored to earn the endorsement of National Security Leaders for America,” said Katie Hobbs. “These leaders understand that putting Arizona first means protecting our democracy, our security, and our natural resources. While my opponents undermine our democratic institutions, threaten our national security, and side with out-of-state corporations stealing our water, I’ll always stand up to protect our democracy and keep Arizona’s resources in Arizona’s hands.”

Since taking office, Katie Hobbs has made keeping Arizonans safe, defending our democracy, and protecting Arizona’s water a top priority of her administration:

  • Deployed the Arizona National Guard to Arizona’s southern border through Task Force SAFE to increase drug interdiction resources, seizing more than 18 million fentanyl pills, 6,598 pounds of illicit drugs, and 237 weapons.
  • Established Operation Desert Guardian, a joint effort between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies that uses shared intelligence and coordinated enforcement to target cartels and transnational criminal organizations operating in Arizona.
  • Signed the Ashley Dunn Act to crack down on fentanyl trafficking by increasing penalties for individuals convicted of possessing or selling 200 grams or more of fentanyl.
  • Ended the leases of a Saudi Arabian corporation pumping Arizona’s groundwater unchecked and shipping its crops overseas.
  • Delivered a historically secure 2020 election as secretary of state — standing up to the “Big Lie” and defending the will of Arizona voters.
  • Stopped legislation that would have made it harder for Arizonans to vote by mail, protected the state’s Active Early Voting List, and preserved convenient, safe ballot drop-off options for voters.
  • Stood up for Native American voters, pushing back on efforts to make it harder for tribal communities to access the ballot.
  • Invested $2.3 million to strengthen Arizona’s elections, supporting a statewide elections fellowship, maintaining the voter registration database, and improving election security, accessibility, and emergency poll-worker deployment.
