FACT CHECK: Andy Biggs Lies About Katie Hobbs To Distract From His Record of Protecting a Corrupt Pedophile Cult

PHOENIX – Andy Biggs is resorting to false attacks on Gov. Katie Hobbs because he can’t defend his own record—including siding with a corrupt pedophile cult instead of supporting bipartisan legislation that would have protected underage girls from abuse. His latest digital video twists the facts and leaves out key details that undermine its central claims.

CLAIM #1: Sunshine Residential had donated $400,000 to Hobbs’ inaugural fund and the Arizona Democratic Party and “then the Hobbs administration gave that contractor an extra $4 million a year. Something no one else got.” 

THE TRUTH: Local reporting found there is “no evidence” that Gov. Hobbs or the Governor’s Office directed or influenced the Department of Child Safety’s (DCS) decision. The DCS Director has repeatedly said the Governor’s Office “never weighed in” and “never tried to pressure” him.

In fact, Sunshine Residential’s request for a special rate increase was initially denied by DCS. The increase was only later approved by DCS after agency staff determined that losing Sunshine’s capacity would jeopardize hundreds of foster care beds, leading to the separation of siblings, because the federal government was offering significantly higher rates. The following year, when DCS renegotiated its contracts, 52 group home providers received a rate increase, including every provider with an existing state contract.

CLAIM #2: “While kids in state care waited.”

THE TRUTH: DCS approved the rate increase because officials concluded children in state care would have been harmed if Sunshine left the state system. Sunshine operated roughly 70 percent of sibling placement beds in Maricopa County, and DCS determined losing those beds could have forced children to sleep in offices or hotel rooms or be separated from their siblings. The DCS Director said, “Maintaining capacity for vulnerable children drove the decision—not politics.”

CLAIM #3: “Katie Hobbs is for sale. Andy Biggs answers to you.” 

THE TRUTH: Gov. Hobbs always puts Arizona first. She has championed the largest ethics and transparency reforms in modern Arizona history. She signed legislation requiring earlier and more frequent campaign finance disclosures for statewide officials, strengthening oversight and making it easier for Arizonans to see who is funding campaigns.

Andy Biggs has refused to stand up to Washington’s corruption—protecting the most notorious sex criminal of our time by voting against the release of the Epstein files, handing out tax breaks to billionaires while cutting healthcare for Arizona families, and repeatedly killing ethics reform in the Arizona Legislature – including legislation to ban lobbyist gifts and free entertainment tickets for lawmakers.

And instead of protecting women and children from Warren Jeffs’ pedophile cult, Andy Biggs used his power as Senate President to kill bipartisan legislation that would have held the corrupt local officials accountable who were shielding pedophiles. Even members of his own party condemned his actions at the time, with one Republican lawmaker saying “women and children suffered three years longer than they should have because he protected the bad guys.”
