KINGMAN – Last week, Gov. Katie Hobbs stopped by Mudd on 66 in Kingman, Arizona to tour the establishment and hear directly from the owners about how rising costs driven by Washington, D.C. policies have affected their day-to-day operations and their ability to thrive. She later joined local leaders, organizers, and volunteers to officially open the Copper State Victory coordinated campaign’s Bullhead City office.

As the race for Governor continues to ramp up, incumbent Katie Hobbs is on the move touring cities and towns throughout Arizona as part of her ‘Arizona First Tour’ – which she said aims to set politics aside, while focusing on the needs of Arizonans.

Hobbs and her team made their way through Kingman on Thursday, Aug. 6. Her time in town started out at Lee Williams High School for the 19th Annual Rural Policy Forum, a three day event that looks at priorities for natural resources, funding options, economic boosters and disaster readiness. From there, Hobbs visited Mudd on 66 to have a sit down chat with the owner and learn how to make her own coffee.

The owner of Mudd on 66 Lenore Knudtson told Hobbs about the in’s and out’s of running a small business in Kingman. Specifically, touching on the economy and how legislative policies can and do impact their ability to succeed. Hobbs said talking to small business owners, like Knudston, gives her the chance to get a better grasp of what’s really going on in small businesses.

“I am focused on making sure that I am showing up,” Hobbs said. “I love Kingman, it’s a big part of Route 66. Small businesses are critical in Arizona. They play such a big role in the economy, especially in rural Arizona communities. I want to show up and hear about what we can do to help them where we can.”

Hobbs said that her stop in Kingman, and her whole tour are focused on learning the needs of Arizonans in every corner of the state. She said that so far one of the biggest challenges she has been hearing is affordability, and health care.

“Rising costs are a challenge,” Hobbs said “They’re being driven by Washington’s agenda and my opponent who has continued to support cutting healthcare, cutting food assistance, supporting tariffs and supporting the war in Iran. These are all things that are raising costs for Arizonans.”

She said that one of her big focuses moving forward in her campaign is addressing the challenges that rural Arizonans face like access to healthcare, child care and housing availability. Hobbs said the state has secured federal funding for broadband throughout the state, something that she said will help small businesses, increase accessibility to rural healthcare, educational opportunities and economic growth.
- “So many of the challenges that we’re facing as Arizonans are not Democratic or Republican issues,” Hobbs told the Miner.
“And I don’t think they have Democratic or Republican answers. That’s why I work to put the politics aside and bring Arizonans together to solve challenges. We’ve been able to get a lot done doing that and it’s going to be my approach as we continue.”
Gov. Hobbs at Bullhead City Copper State Victory Office Opening
- Katie rallied local leaders, organizers, and volunteers at the opening of the coordinated campaign’s Copper State Victory Bullhead City office. She emphasized that every corner of Arizona will play a critical role in this election and that building a strong grassroots operation in communities like Bullhead City is essential to earning every vote and winning in November.
