FACT CHECK: Andy Biggs’ Latest False Attacks Can’t Hide His Record of Protecting a Corrupt Pedophile Cult

PHOENIX – Andy Biggs is launching a new round of false attacks on Gov. Katie Hobbs, repeating allegations despite a two-year Attorney General investigation that found no evidence of any wrongdoing. But no matter how much Biggs tries to change the subject, he still has to answer for his own record of protecting a corrupt pedophile cult by blocking bipartisan legislation aimed at protecting women and children from abuse.

CLAIM #1: “Katie Hobbs has created a culture of corruption in Arizona. She’s under investigation for a pay-to-play scheme.”

THE TRUTH: After a two-year investigation, more than 100,000 documents, and more than a terabyte of data, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office found no wrongdoing by Gov. Hobbs, the Governor’s Office, or the Hobbs campaign.

Investigators found that Gov. Hobbs did not advocate for Sunshine Residential’s rate increase and was not even informed about the decision until after DCS approved it. Two former DCS directors also told investigators that neither Gov. Hobbs nor her office pressured the agency to approve the increase.

The remaining reviews are being conducted by Republican-led or Republican-affiliated entities. As Capitol Media Services reported, “one is being conducted by the Auditor General’s Office, which is an arm of the Republican-controlled Legislature, with help from Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, a Republican. House Republicans also have hired a Trump-aligned private attorney to conduct their own probe.”

Rachel Mitchell has shown up in a Biggs ad to defend his record of protecting a pedophile cult, and the Republican leadership leading this review has nearly all endorsed Andy Biggs. But even Republican House Speaker Steve Montenegro has acknowledged that the allegations he has raised do not amount to a smoking gun.

CLAIM #2: “A political donor gave over half a million to support Katie Hobbs. Then she gave his company, Sunshine Residential, a $4 million taxpayer-funded pay raise after they’d been rejected twice.”

THE TRUTH: Gov. Hobbs did not give Sunshine Residential a rate increase. DCS approved the increase, and the Attorney General’s two-year investigation found no evidence that Gov. Hobbs or the Governor’s Office directed or influenced that decision.

In fact, former DCS directors Michael Faust and David Lujan both said neither Gov. Hobbs nor her office pressured the agency to increase Sunshine’s rates. The Attorney General’s investigation also found that Gov. Hobbs did not advocate for Sunshine’s rate increase and was not informed about DCS’ decision until after it had been approved.

And even Republicans publicly attacking Gov. Hobbs over the issue have presented no evidence that she played any role in—or even knew about—DCS’ decision to increase Sunshine’s rates.

CLAIM #3: “Katie Hobbs will take care of her corrupt donors, but she won’t take care of Arizonans.”

THE TRUTH: The Attorney General’s two-year investigation found no evidence connecting Sunshine’s political contributions to favorable treatment from Gov. Hobbs or her administration.

Gov. Hobbs has championed ethics and transparency reforms, including signing legislation that requires earlier and more frequent campaign finance disclosures for statewide officials, strengthens oversight, and makes it easier for Arizonans to see who is funding campaigns. Meanwhile, Andy Biggs voted against releasing the Epstein files in committee and repeatedly opposed ethics reforms during his time in the Arizona Legislature, including legislation to ban lobbyist gifts and free entertainment tickets for lawmakers.

And instead of protecting women and children from Warren Jeffs’ pedophile cult, Biggs used his power as Senate President to block bipartisan legislation that would have stripped authority from the Colorado City Marshal’s Office amid concerns that it was working for Jeffs. Even members of his own party condemned his actions at the time, with one Republican lawmaker saying “women and children suffered three years longer than they should have because he protected the bad guys.”
