Pro-Choice Champion Katie Hobbs Releases “Bans Off Arizona” Plan To Protect Reproductive Choice and Access

PHOENIX — Today, Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs released her newest plan, Bans Off Arizona, to protect and expand access to reproductive health care in anticipation of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. Without Roe’s protection, governors now become the last line of defense for abortion rights and reproductive freedom in the states.

“Arizonans deserve a governor who has been on the frontlines of this fight for decades. I plan to do everything in my power as a mother, as a social worker, as a domestic violence advocate, and as governor to stop these unprecedented attacks and to secure women’s rights for the next generation,” said Katie Hobbs. “I will fearlessly work to increase access to abortion services and reproductive care, use my veto pen to oppose any restrictive and extreme measures coming from the legislature, and make sure that women and families have the resources they need to thrive right here in Arizona.”

Katie has a long legislative record of supporting access to reproductive health care and has repeatedly called on Governor Ducey and the legislature to immediately repeal the 1901 law that effectively bans all abortion and criminalizes medical professionals who administer those health care services. Prior to running for office, Katie was a social worker and she helped run one of the largest domestic violence shelters in the country, giving her firsthand experience with women who didn’t always have control over their reproductive health care choices. She is committed to ensuring the decision to have a child continues to rest solely between a woman and her doctor, not the government or politicians.
