ICYMI: Katie Hobbs Condemns Kari Lake and Karrin Taylor Robson For Continuing To Spread Deadly Election Lies

In a new op-ed, Hobbs calls attention to the extraordinary measures law enforcement is taking to counter Big Lie-driven death threats

PHOENIX – In an op-ed published yesterday in The Arizona Republic, Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs called out her conspiracy theorist opponents Kari Lake and Karrin Taylor Robson for spreading the same brand of election lies that have spurred death threats in the past and have put law enforcement on high alert ahead of the midterms.

The same day her article ran, law enforcement arrested the man who threatened to send Hobbs a bomb last year for doing her job to certify the election and protect Arizonans’ right to vote in 2020. The man, who also allegedly searched for Hobbs’ address and for the term “fema boston marathon bombing,” was among the many who were radicalized amid Donald Trump’s Big Lie disinformation campaign following his 2020 election defeat.

Hobbs wrote in her op-ed:

“The risk of would-be election vigilantes, equipped with the assortment of conspiracy theories peddled by Trump and his ilk, have already spurred a wave of election workers to quit and departments remain understaffed.”

It’s led law enforcement to be on high-alert and the Maricopa County sheriff to take the extraordinary step of restricting days off for deputies during the week of the primary and general elections.”

[…]

This is not a partisan issue. These attacks are happening because radical conspiracy theorists have spotted the gaps in our voting rights and election laws and are using loopholes like the Civil War-era Electoral Count Act to manipulate our democracy to their will.”
