Former U.S. Representative Ron Barber Endorses Katie Hobbs for Governor

Barber stresses the need for the Secretary of State’s strong leadership during a time of widespread turbulence

PHOENIX — Today, former U.S. Congressman Ron Barber endorsed Secretary of State Katie Hobbs’ bid to be Arizona’s next governor, underlining the need for a leader who can bring order to the state’s highest elected office and deliver solutions on critical issues.

“Katie Hobbs is a proven leader who, time and time again, has shown she is the only candidate in this race with the experience and willingness to work across the aisle to deliver results for the people of Arizona,” Barber said.  “As governor, Katie will be a steady hand who will put our state on a path to economic prosperity and defend our fundamental rights.”

“Whether it’s facing death threats for protecting our democracy in 2020 or campaigning against whatever fringe candidate the GOP sends our way, I will never back down from a fight,” Hobbs said. “I am running so that everyday Arizonans can have someone at the helm of our state who will bring order to the governorship, not more of the insanity my Republican opponents have displayed throughout their campaigns.”

Barber was an aide to former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords when she was injured in the 2011 mass shooting in Tucson, during which he was also shot. Both Republican frontrunners for governor, Kari Lake and Karrin Taylor Robson, have consistently campaigned on eliminating gun safety laws, and they both opposed the recent bipartisan bill passed by Congress.
