At NARAL Phone Bank, Katie Hobbs Reiterates Abortion Is on the Ballot
Hobbs: “We must elect pro-choice champions up and down the ballot to stop government control of our bodies ”
PHOENIX — At a NARAL phone bank today, Arizona Secretary of State and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs spoke to pro-choice volunteers talking to voters about about the importance of abortion rights this election.
“Right now, Arizona women are facing a civil war era total abortion ban that puts lives in danger,” Hobbs said. “Our rights are on the line this November, and we must fight to restore reproductive freedom in Arizona. We must elect pro-choice champions up and down the ballot to stop government control of our bodies.”
Kari Lake has made extremism a central feature of her entire campaign, referring to women who seek abortion care as “ghouls,” “murderers,” “liars,” and “executioners.” She has tripled down on her support for Arizona’s territorial era ban that criminalizes abortion and requires prison time for doctors. Lake also previously praised the Texas Heartbeat bill and promised to sign an identical bill, which would put a bounty on Arizonans.
Arizona’s 1864 territorial-era ban has already denied a teenage girl lifesaving medication and forced women to travel out of state to get an abortion.
