Trump Returns to Arizona to Rehash Big Lie, Prop Up His Favorite Election Denier Kari Lake

PHOENIX – Defeated former President Donald Trump returned to Arizona on Friday to unsurprisingly rehash the 2020 election and prop up his favorite election denier: extreme and out-of-touch Kari Lake.

“Arizonans are sick and tired of relitigating the 2020 election, but Donald Trump and Kari Lake are hellbent on rewriting history and overturning the will of our voters,” Hobbs said. “If Trump were to get his way, Arizona’s next governor would be an election denier who pledges to ‘never let [him] down’ – even if that means refusing to certify our safe and secure elections, rubber-stamping his deranged policy ideas, and even breaking the law.”

Lake got herself into Trump’s favor – and is garnering a “hard look” as his running mate in 2024 – by jumping on his Big Lie bandwagon and making it central to her campaign. She continues to call for decertifying the 2020 election and refuses to say if she would certify the 2024 election if she were elected governor. As Trump tries to install allies around the country who are eager to do his bidding and uproot democracy if an election doesn’t go their way, Lake has become the poster child for the type of blind loyalty and lawlessness he requires of his devotees.

Along with Lake, all Republican candidates running for Arizona governor have spread lies about the 2020 election. That includes Lake’s trailing opponent, Karrin Taylor Robson, who continues to push the false narrative that the 2020 election was “absolutely not fair” and also refused to say whether she would certify the 2024 results.

As someone who faced death threats for securing Arizonans’ freedom to vote in the 2020 election, the Secretary of State has proven herself to be a battle-tested leader with the wherewithal to get the job done even in times of immense turmoil. Rather than wasting time on an election Trump lost nearly two years ago, Hobbs is working to meet the needs of everyday Arizonans who are struggling with the skyrocketing cost of living, the fallout from the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, and continued attacks on public school funding against the will of Arizona voters.
