PHOENIX – Today, Katie Hobbs is proud to announce she has earned the endorsement of United Food & Commercial Workers Local 99, the largest private sector union in Arizona, which represents more than 25,000 workers across the Southwest. UFCW Local 99 is backing Gov. Hobbs because of her strong record of defending workersâ rights, lowering costs, and supporting working families.
âIn Governor Katie Hobbs, working Arizonans have had a leader they can rely on,â said UFCW Local 99 President Jim McLaughlin. âSince taking office, Hobbs has fought to lower costs, improve healthcare outcomes, and put money back in the pockets of everyday families. Meanwhile, her veto pen has been a power backstop to anti-worker legislation which has aimed to weaken workersâ rights and erode our individual liberties. When the federal government shut down in October, Governor Hobbs stepped up and directed funding to keep families fed, grocery stores open, and our Local 99 union members working. On behalf of our 25,000 members in Arizona and across the Southwest, UFCW 99 is proud to support Governor Hobbs in her bid for re-election.â
âI am proud to have UFCW Local 99âs support,â said Katie Hobbs. âHaving grown up in a working-class family myself, Iâve long understood the challenges facing Arizona workers. I’ve made it a priority to fight for our workers and their familiesâby creating good-paying union jobs, improving job-site safety, and reducing costs for families. Arizonaâs working people power this state, and they deserve a leader who has their back.â
With Katie Hobbs as governor, labor has always had a seat at the table. Itâs why she has also earned endorsements from the Arizona AFL-CIO and AFSCMEÂ â because no one fights harder for working Arizonans.
Since taking office, Gov. Hobbs has made protecting and championing working families a cornerstone of her administration, including:
- Launched a first-in-the-nation Heat Stress State Emphasis Plan to protect outdoor workers with requirements for water, shade, and rest on the hottest days;
- Created the Talent Ready AZ Initiative and established a first-of-its-kind Workforce Cabinet to align education, training, and economic agencies around one goal: connecting Arizonans to good-paying jobs in fast-growing industries like clean energy, cybersecurity, and advanced manufacturing;
- Doubling the number of apprenticeships through the BuildItAZ initiative, with new investments and partnerships to train the next generation of trades professionals;
- Delivered paid parental leave, childcare investments, and healthcare expansions for working families, including canceling $2 billion in medical debt, benefitting over one million Arizonans.
- Made it easier for families to find affordable childcare for school-age children.
- Canceled medical debt for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans to create pathways to economic stability and improve health outcomes for the working class.
