ICYMI: Karrin Taylor Robson Goes Full Todd Akin, Opposes Abortion Exception for Rape Because “Less Than 2 Percent” Of Those Raped By Step-Father Become Pregnant

PHOENIX — Arizona Republican candidate for governor Karrin Taylor Robson went full Todd Akin on KTAR-FM Friday. On the radio show, Robson was asked if she would support an exception for abortion in the case of a 14-year-old being raped and impregnated by her step-father.

Robson continued to oppose an exception and justified it by saying, “the instance of pregnancies occurring in violent situations are extremely rare. In fact, it’s estimated about, you know, less than 2% of those situations do a pregnancy occur.”

In 2012, Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin’s loss was largely attributed to a similar comment about very few women becoming pregnant due to rape.

  • Robson Cheers The Overturning Of Roe v. Wade

    • Robson: This decision is truly a victory for life in Arizona and across the country. You know, as you mentioned, it’s been decades, five decades and tens of millions of innocent lives that have been lost. And so, you know, I believe the Supreme Court has finally reversed a ruling that was wrongly decided.

  • Robson Goes Full Todd Akin, Opposes Exception For Pregnant Woman Raped By Step-Father Because Pregnancy Is “Extremely Rare” In Those Situations

    • Host: Let’s say there’s a 14 year old girl who was being raped by her step-father and is now pregnant. In an Arizona where abortion is generally illegal, should that be an exception where an abortion is permitted in that circumstance?

    • Robson: You know, I believe life begins at conception. And quite frankly, it’s, you know, the instance of pregnancies occurring in violent situations are extremely rare. In fact, it’s estimated about, you know, less than 2% of those situations do a pregnancy occur.

  • Robson Equates Abortion To Murder, Punishable With Prison Time

    • Robson: You know, in Arizona, if you kill a pregnant woman, you get charged with a double homicide, we already give that baby rights. We need to protect every single life and we need to foster a culture of life.

  • Robson Claims We Lived Under A “Culture Of Death” Under Roe

    • Robson: But, you know, it goes back to all of us, you know, stepping back, taking a moment to understand what’s going on here and understand the opportunity that we all have to turn away from, from what is a culture of death back to a culture of life.
