Katie Hobbs’ Statement on the Arizona Legislature’s Refusal to Act on the Aggregate Expenditure Limit

PHOENIX — With just over a month to act, Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs released the following statement on the Arizona legislature’s negligence to remove the aggregate expenditure limit – which will cut school funding and prevent them from spending already-approved funds on resources needed for classrooms, students, and staff, during a time when school systems are being challenged like never before.

As the legislature refuses to act, Arizona schools face looming budget cuts that would have dire impacts on our children, teachers, and local communities.

“Our state legislature is failing students, parents, and teachers across Arizona by refusing to address the inevitable crisis that is looming over them: shuttered classrooms and unpaid teachers. I am calling on every single state legislator to do what it takes to get rid of this archaic rule and fully fund our schools to prevent dire economic losses as we continue to recover from the pandemic. These partisan games are dangerous, and our schools are in desperate need of action right now.”

Next Tuesday, Katie Hobbs’ campaign will host a phone bank with volunteers from across Arizona, so that they can make their voices heard to their legislators.
