EMILY’s List Endorses Katie Hobbs for Arizona Governor
PHOENIX — Today, EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Katie Hobbs in the race for governor of Arizona.
“Whether it’s to secure health care for low-income people or to combat the former president’s attempts to undermine the election, we have seen firsthand that Katie Hobbs never backs down from a tough fight. That’s why we are proud to stand with Secretary of State Katie Hobbs as she runs for governor of Arizona,” said Laphonza Butler, president of EMILY’s List. “With dangerous and extreme anti-choice legislation moving through Arizona, it has never been more important to elect a Democratic pro-choice champion to the governorship. And with continued Republican-led attempts to undermine the integrity of Arizona’s elections, electing a governor who will uphold voting rights and democratic values is critical. We know that with Katie Hobbs in office, any attempts to restrict reproductive freedom or voting rights will be struck down, and protections for all Arizona families and their right to participate in our democracy will be prioritized. Flipping this governorship is an EMILY’s List priority, and we are excited to support Katie Hobbs in this crucial election.”
“Arizona has not seen a pro-choice Democratic woman as governor in over a decade,” said Katie Hobbs. “I am honored to have the support of EMILY’s List, and as Arizona’s next governor I will continue to fight tirelessly to protect women’s freedom to make decisions about their bodies, their families, and their futures.”
Katie Hobbs has been a strong advocate for women’s rights her entire life, and career. She looks forward to continuing this important work as Arizona’s next governor with the support of EMILY’s List.
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY’s List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 158 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and more than 1,300 women to state and local office. More than 40 percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. After the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women reached out to EMILY’s List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices. In our effort to elect more women in offices across the country, we have created our Run to Win program, expanded our training program, including a Training Center online, and trained thousands of women.
