Jewish Democratic Council of America Endorses Katie Hobbs for Governor
Endorsement underscores Hobbs’ record fighting against right-wing extremism, bigotry
PHOENIX – The Jewish Democratic Council of America announced that it has endorsed Secretary of State Katie Hobbs’ campaign for Arizona governor, stressing the need to elect leaders who will fight back against the unsettling rise of right-wing extremism.
“In the face of dangerous right-wing extremism, Katie Hobbs has stood up for democracy and to deliver for Arizonans,” JDCA Spokesperson Sam Crystal said. “Her opponent, meanwhile, endorsed an out-of-state candidate with a history of bigoted statements against Jews. For the sake of our democracy and Jewish safety, we need to elect Katie Hobbs governor of Arizona.”
“Anti-Semites and bigots across the country have waged blatant attacks on our civil rights and our democracy,” Hobbs said. “Now more than ever, our leaders must have the backbone to stand their ground against far-right extremism. Just as I stood up to death threats to protect Arizonans’ right to vote as Secretary of State, I promise to do everything in my power as governor to fight back against the infringement on fundamental human rights.”
The endorsement comes after far-right opponent Kari Lake threw her full support behind an Oklahoma state senate candidate with a well documented history of making racist and homophobic remarks – such as stating “the Jews” are evidence that “evil exists” and that he “largely” agrees with inciting conspiracy theories that Jews are “taking over the world.” Even after immense pressure, Lake refused to acknowledge his comments as reality and Jackson still proudly displays her endorsement on his campaign website.
